WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. issued the following statement today after President Biden's address to the nation:

"The Biden-Harris Administration has been one of the most successful, most accomplished presidential administrations of our time and I am thankful for President Biden's leadership.

Just two weeks after a violent insurrection, Joe Biden became President, proving our democracy had survived. Now, to preserve that gift, he's passing the baton back to the people.

America is a better nation because of Joe Biden. From the decades he served as a member of the U.S. Senate, to his service as President Barack Obama's Vice President, to his historic single term as our 46th President, historians will say that he served this nation and its citizens well.

Whenever they were tested, President Biden and Vice President Harris put people over politics. they rescued our economy from a once-in-a-century pandemic and created new jobs. They reduced and capped medical costs for seniors, fought for reproductive rights, and reduced gun violence. They rebuilt our infrastructure and ensured that America would take climate change seriously. They named the first Black woman to the U.S. Supreme Court. The well-being of our citizens have always been their top priority.

His ability to work and earn support across the aisle made him a respected statesman, and his courage to take a stand, even when he stood alone, will render his legislative record unforgettable and improve the lives of every American for centuries to come.

However, it was his selfless bow, his show of love for the American people who will choose his successor, that we will remember with the most fondness.

It is imperative that we keep his legacy intact and maintain America as a prime example of democracy."
