The city of Las Vegas supports local businesses in the 18b Arts District

The city of Las Vegas cares about residents and businesses and knows how vital both are to making the 18b Arts District and the rest of the downtown community thrive.
Here are two ways the city supports local businesses in the 18b Arts District:
  • There has been an issue of copper thefts in the city, so the City Council passed an ordinance Sept. 4, 2024, to discourage the theft of copper wire by making it unlawful for anyone to purchase scrap metal or seven-strand utility wire within city limits that has not been transported to the purchaser using a motor vehicle, and is without proper documentation and payment verification. Since October 2022, more than100 miles of copper wire hasbeen stolen or damaged in the city. More than one million dollars in time and materials have been spent addressing copper wire theft.
  • The 'Problem Orienting Policing' Team, or 'P.O.P. Team' for short, is another way local businesses and business owners are supported in the Arts District. P.O.P. Team officers are focused on building relationships in the community, and they always communicate with local business owners to find out their concerns or needs. They also work to build relationships with the unhoused community to connect them to resources, such as the Courtyard Homeless Resource Center.
