Dear alumni and friends of the College of Health Sciences,

The fall semester has begun, marking a new academic year in which we in the College of Health Sciences are happy to welcome 412 students to the Class of 2028, our largest freshman class ever! Like others before them, this cohort of students sits poised to receive a transformative Catholic, Jesuit education and become inspired to Be The Difference.

Our faculty are likewise energized by the new year. Faculty like Dr. Allison Hyngstrom, professor and chair of the Department of Physical Therapy, whose critical new research into how blood flow regulation can improve ambulation in stroke victims, has been awarded a $3.2 million R01 grant from the National Institutes of Health.

We're pleased to introduce a new Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences. This industry-focused program equips students by providing real-world experience in the department's new collaborative laboratory, or "Collaboratory." Here, graduate students get a tangible look at the biomedical sciences field, preparing them for careers across the industry, including research, biotech, academia and more.

Lastly, we profile a recent alumna, Priya Ahuja, a pre-medical student who is spending a gap year serving our local community by developing a nutritional education program for elementary-level children. Her current work is the product of a project she developed as part of her disciplinary honors coursework while majoring in biomedical sciences at Marquette.

I hope you enjoy this edition of Marquette Health Sciences. Please share with us any story ideas you'd like to see covered as we continue to educate the next generation of mission-driven leaders and continue to advance the Science that Heals.

Warm regards,

Dr. William E. Cullinan
Dean and Professor
