Edinburg, TX - The City of Edinburg is proud to announce the promotion of Deputy Chief Gabriel Espinoza to the newly established role of Assistant Chief of the Edinburg Fire Department. This strategic appointment underscores the city's commitment to enhancing leadership and operational excellence within its fire service.
A lifelong Edinburg resident, Assistant Chief Espinoza's journey in firefighting began in primary school, inspired by local firefighters during fire prevention assemblies. His passion for the profession grew during his studies at The University of Pan American, leading him to volunteer as a firefighter in 2000.
After the events of September 11, 2001, he made the decisive choice to pursue a full-time firefighting career. He officially joined the Edinburg Fire Department in November 2003 as one of its first six full-time firefighters. Espinoza has excelled through various ranks, becoming Deputy Chief in 2019 and serving as Fire Marshal in 2023.
"I am excited to continue working alongside Assistant Chief Espinoza as we strive to better our department and serve our community," Edinburg Fire Chief Omar Garza said. "His dedication and expertise will be invaluable as we continue to excel in providing top-notch fire service."
Throughout his career, Espinoza has made significant contributions, including leading A-Shift, implementing a Small Unmanned Air Systems (Drone) program, and developing vital fire prevention initiatives.
"I am honored to take on this challenge and continue the legacy of our great fire department and the incredible firefighters who serve our community," Assistant Chief Espinoza said. "Together, we will strive to uphold the highest standards of safety and service."
The City of Edinburg looks forward to Assistant Chief Espinoza's continued leadership in enhancing community safety and well-being.
