National Preparedness Month: Be Ready in Case of Power Outages

September is National Preparedness Month, and although Idaho Power keeps the lights on 99.9% of the time, the energy company reminds everyone to prepare for the unexpected. With fall weather around the corner and continued potential for late-summer storms, power outages are always possible.

Prepare by assembling a home emergency outage kit that includes flashlights, blankets, bottled water, and canned food. Also ensure you know how to manually open and close garage doors and security gates, and have a plan for any unique needs such as medical supplies or well water.

Download the company's free mobile app to sign up for outage-related push notifications, view the outage map, and track your power status. The outage map is also available at idahopower.com/outage.

If the power does go out, avoid opening fridge and freezer doors so your food stays cold longer.
