City collecting storm debris on regular trash days through September

Residents have one more month of free storm debris pickup and storm-related permits.

While the disaster declaration period will end on August 31, the city's sanitation department will continue storm debris pickup through September 30. Residents may leave storm-related debris in piles next to their carts on their typical trash pickup day.

Beginning in October, residents will be limited to one bundle (no larger than 5 feet in length and 3 feet in height and 3 feet in width) of brush during their regular collection day. Customers will be charged the bulk waste collection rate of $45 per cubic yard (3ft. x 3ft. x 3ft.) for additional piles of brush or bulky waste. Bulk waste are large items distinguished from the general, domestic municipal waste collected in carts.

The City of Galveston is also still offering free permits for storm-related repairs through September 30. Residents should please keep in mind that permits are required for most repairs except painting. Repairing a fence, roofing, siding and replacing glass panes in an historic district all require a permit.

To have the permit fee waived, the permit seeker may apply for the permit in the office at the public works building, 3015 Market, so please stop by the office during business hours Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Permit seekers will need to specify that it is Hurricane Beryl damage. Permit seekers may also apply online through the portal, please check that the permit is disaster-related for repair or remodel permits.
