Kakogawa Plant, Harima's main production site in Japan, will introduce the EnneGreen Plan as of April 2023, which will result in eliminating carbon dioxide emissions from electricity use. Provided by Japan-based Ennet, the plan successfully pairs utilization of electricity with a non-fossil fuel energy certificate which serves as proof that electricity originates from renewable energy sources.
This initiative is part of Harima's GHG Emission Reduction Policy announced in 2021, which stipulates curbing greenhouse gas emissions by 46%, relative to FY2013 levels, by 2027,
3 years ahead of Japan's national target, and further aiming for carbon-neutral operations
by 2050.
Harima has long been involved in emission reduction at the Kakogawa Site, opening a biomass power plant with a capacity of 4,000kW in 2005, and a floating solar power generation facility with a capacity of 920kW, on a nearby reservoir, in March 2023, raising its renewable energy use rate to 73%. With the Enne Green Plan, all electricity utilized at the site will be regarded as derived from renewable resources.
In addition, we will introduce the Green Basic Plan at our Ibaraki, Tokyo and Fuji plants in Japan, which will result in partly replacing purchased electricity with renewable energy. Provided by Japan-based TEPCO Energy Partner, the plan successfully combines a FIT* and non-FIT non-fossil fuel energy certificates.
*FIT: Feed-in Tariff Scheme for Renewable Energy
These emission mitigation initiatives will be gradually employed at our other plants as well, towards achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2050.
