In honor of International Overdose Awareness Day

The City of Independence has given away more than 1000 doses of Narcan since March 2023, and will continue to do so in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day.
Through a partnership with the Missouri Institute for Mental Health, the City of Independence is able to offer free Narcan to residents. It is available year-round at Health Services located inside Independence City Hall at 111 E. Maple Avenue.

Additionally, Independence Health Services will meet residents where they are Wednesday, August 21, 2024 through Friday, August 23, 2024. Those locations include:
  • Wednesday, Aug. 21:
    • 10:30 - 1 pm
      • Mid-Continent Public Library Farview Neighborhood Library

    • 3 - 4 pm
      • Walmart Neighborhood Market
        3411 S. Noland Road, Independence, MO 64055
  • Thursday, Aug. 22:
    • 9-10:30 am
      • Mid-Continent Public Library East Independence Branch
        4505 S. Little Blue Pkwy, Independence, MO 64057
    • 12 - 2pm
      • Fairmont Community Center
        217 S. Cedar Ave, Independence, MO 64053
  • Friday, Aug. 23:
    • 9-10:30 am
      • Mid-Continent Public Library North Independence Branch
        317 W. 24 Highway, Independence, MO 64050

More than 100 doses were given out during events recognizing International Overdose Awareness Day this week in 2023. Theoretically, the 1,000 doses given out in 17 months by Independence Health Serices have saved 1,000 lives.
