Steelcase Recognized as Gold-Level Veteran-Friendly Employer by Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency

Grand Rapids, Mich., Nov. 20, 2024 - Steelcase, a global design, research and thought leader in the world of work, has been named a Gold-Level 2024 Veteran-Friendly Employer by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency. This award underscores the company's dedication to building workplaces where everyone feels seen, heard and valued.

Through the work of Steelcase Salutes, an employee-led business inclusion group, the company is one of 32 gold-level employers in the state, placing it in the top 5% of the Veteran-Friendly Employers. This is the third consecutive year Steelcase has been recognized for its efforts in becoming a more welcoming and inclusive workplace for veterans, earning the silver-level award in 2022 and 2023.

Steelcase Salutes is comprised of veterans and allies who work to support and advocate for a veteran-friendly environment at the company and throughout the community in various ways, ranging from organization-wide events to individual outreach. The group also works with the MVAA and the Steelcase Wellbeing Hub to support veterans' mental health and engage families and fellow employees through commemorative events and team-building activities.

To obtain gold, the highest possible designation, Steelcase Salutes worked with colleagues across business functions to validate and meet specific MVAA criteria. This includes improving human resources processes for onboarding veterans as well as its tracking and maintaining hiring goals, which are reported to the state of Michigan. Steelcase policies provide active guard and reserve differential pay with ongoing medical benefits coverage if employees are called to active-duty status. Steelcase Salutes also created a dedicated space at the organization's headquarters for veterans, military spouses and allies to come together and support each other.

"Steelcase is honored to be recognized as a Gold Level Veteran-Friendly Employer," said Sara Armbruster, president and CEO of Steelcase, who accepted the award at an event on Nov. 19. "Our purpose is to help the world work better, and veterans embody this mission through their commitment, resilience and dedication to serving others. We're grateful for the opportunity to welcome veterans to our team, to support them in their careers and to grow alongside them in ways that make us all stronger."

The MVAA recognizes employers that commit to military veteran recruitment, training and retention practices by awarding those employers gold, silver and bronze level status as Veteran-Friendly Employers. MVAA's Veteran-Friendly Employer program helps qualified organizations recruit and retain top veteran talent while providing others a road map to improve their recruitment efforts.
