Storm Preparations Underway Ahead of Heavy Rain, Wind Gusts

Rain is on the way as the Bay Area sits at the southern tip of a strong storm already moving through the North Bay. Conditions in Dublin are expected to remain mild on Wednesday and Thursday, but heavy rain and wind gusts are anticipated on Friday, followed by scattered showers over the weekend and more rain into next week.

To prepare for the storm, maintenance crews are actively working across the city - raking leaves, clearing debris, and vacuuming storm drains to keep water flowing smoothly.

Now is a good time to prepare your property and neighborhood for the winter storm season. The sandbag station at the City of Dublin Corporation Yard (5709 Scarlett Ct)is open. Free sandbags are available for Dublin residents and businesses concerned about flooding, with a limit of 10 bags per household or business.

If you see flooding or any downed trees during the storm, please report it to the Dublin Police non-emergency line at 925-462-1212. If you see a damaged power line or electrical equipment, call 911 immediately.

Below are some safety tips in the event of strong winds and heavy rainfall:

  • Clear debris from storm drains. Keep a rake on hand to clear debris that may clog storm drains during rain storms.
  • Secure or remove items that can blow around.
  • Stay off the roadways if at all possible.
  • If you must drive, stay in the center lane and do not proceed through standing bodies of water.
  • Keep your car fueled. If electric power is cut off, gas stations may not be operable.
  • Keep your cell phone charged. Have a car charger on hand.
  • Check your emergency supplies (first aid kit, essential medicines, cash, food, water, non-electric can opener, portable radio, flashlights, and spare batteries) and ensure they are in air-tight bags and in handy locations.
  • Keep garbage cans and cars at least one foot from the curb to avoid blocking storm water flows.
