Peters, Stabenow Applaud More than $21 Million in Federal Funding for Port Improvements in the City of Menominee

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senators Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow applauded a $21,252,532 federal investment from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to make upgrades to a port operated by KK Integrated Logistics in the City of Menominee. Funding for this project will be used to reconstruct a dock wall along the Menominee Harbor and install rail infrastructure needed to transport freight from the harbor to its customers around the region. The project's funding comes from the DOT's Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant program, which was established through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law the senators helped enact. Peters also supported the City of Menominee's application for this federal funding.

"This federal investment will modernize port operations in Menominee, helping to ensure the safe and efficient multimodal transport of essential commodities that Michiganders depend on every day," said Senator Peters. "I was pleased to support the City of Menominee's effort to secure this grant funding, which will support long-term economic growth in Menominee and across the entire Great Lakes region."

"Greater investments in Michigan and our nation's infrastructure are long overdue. Redeveloping the general cargo transportation terminal in Menominee Harbor ensures the safety, efficiency, and reliability of this port and supports jobs in this region," said Senator Stabenow.

"On behalf of the City of Menominee and the KK Integrated Logistics Team, I would like to thank Senators Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow for supporting this project," said Brett Botbyl, City Manager of Menominee. "Through their support, KKIL will be able to improve their facility thus ensuring economic development and vitality for our City and the region."

"KK Integrated Logistics is very grateful to be the recipient of this infrastructure grant. Thank you to the City of Menominee, Senator Peters and Senator Stabenow for the support you provided to make this a reality," said Cynthia Kuber, President of KK Industrial Logistics. "KKIL is excited to invest these grant funds in port and intermodal improvements to further support the economic development and growth for our communities.

This grant was awarded as part of a $1.8 billion announcement from the DOT's RAISE program, which supported more than 148 projects across the country. More information about the RAISE program can be found here.
