November is National Long-Term Care Month. This month, Sacramento County's Senior and Adult Services Division wants to remind everyone that it is never too early to start planning for what type of care you want to receive as you age. If you are afraid that private caregiving services may be too expensive, there are several options in Sacramento County for older adults, people with disabilities, and their families to help with long-term care.
Here are a list of a few programs and organizations to consider along with some of their requirements:
In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS)
Resources for Those Outside of IHSS Eligibility
If you do not qualify for IHSS because you do not meet Medi-Cal eligibility requirements. Some people may earn too much to receive Medi-Cal assistance yet struggle with the high costs of private caregiving, which can range from $30 to $40 per hour. The Aging and Disability Resource Connection (ADRC) is a valuable resource for those in this position. As part of the
Agency on Aging Area 4 , the ADRC provides guidance and connects individuals to alternative programs, such as Adult Day Programs, the Veterans Administration and other services that can help reduce long-term care costs.
Del Oro Caregiver Resource Center: Support for Family Caregivers
Family members often take on caregiving responsibilities for aging or disabled loved ones. The
Del Oro Caregiver Resource Center provides essential support to these family caregivers through counseling, resources, and respite care options. This organization helps caregivers manage the emotional, physical and financial challenges of caregiving, allowing them to maintain their well-being and better support their loved ones.
