Malawi Contingent Emergency Response Project (CERP)

The Malawi Contingent Emergency Response Project (CERP) is an Investment Project Financing (IPF) through which emergency response expenditures can be financed with funds repurposed through the Rapid Response Option (RRO). The CERP is one of the World Bank's contingent financing mechanisms in the enhanced Crisis Preparedness and Response Toolkit (CPRT), available to the GoM to gain rapid access to Bank financing to respond to an eligible crisis or emergency.

The CERP is prepared in advance of crisis for which the GOM would seek support from the World Bank to finance its emergency response needs. The CERP has a duration of six years, and does not have any committed funding at approval. Within the CERP period, it can be activated multiple times, depending on the occurrence of eligible emergencies and the availability of funds. Funds repurposed from Malawi's portfolio of active operations will be channeled through the CERP for emergency response.
