Collaboration is key in the transport sector

I believe that being collaborative is a key hallmark of operating successfully and it's something we talk about a lot at the Road Haulage Association (RHA) - indeed it's one of the six defined values our colleagues decided we should live by as a trade association.

And it's in that spirit that we have come together with fellow logistics trade bodies to maximise our collective impact.

We operate under the 'Alliance of Logistics Trade Associations' (ALTA) banner, working with government, stakeholders and our respective members on measures to best support our industry drive growth.

Between us we represent all corners of the logistics sector - a vast, interconnected landscape of different parts - all working together to deliver critical value for the country's economic and social wellbeing. And the RHA's role in that equation is clear. We represent operators of lorries, coaches and vans - a broad church made up primarily, but not exclusively, of SMEs - all moving people and goods quickly and efficiently.

We (ALTA) recently called on the Chancellor to announce measures to strengthen the logistics sector in her upcoming Budget as part of an economic growth strategy.

We're urging her to reform planning processes to speed up new building and infrastructure projects, support the sector on decarbonisation, help the industry meet its skills requirements and reduce border friction.

These asks are underpinned by our call for a logistics voice on the mission board for growth. We believe this would strengthen relationships between the government and our industry for everyone's benefit.

ALTA offers our sector a collective voice to work together on our respective members' commonalities and interests - and a consistent message to ministers and policymakers to help them better understand how our complex industry works and its value to the country.

Collaboration is vital as we address current and future challenges and opportunities to unlock our industry's full potential to drive economic growth.
