press release

On August 4, 2024, State Police members arrested Ramiro Cantu, age 42, of Clinton, NC, for driving while intoxicated, criminal impersonation 2nd, and issued vehicle and traffic tickets.

On August 4, 2024, at approximately 8:56 p.m., Troopers observed a black 2013 Chevrolet Malibu traveling north on State Highway 420 in the town of Norfolk at a high rate of speed. Troopers initiated a traffic stop and interviewed the driver, who provided a Mexican passport claiming to be Ramirez S. Hernandez. Further investigation determined the male driver provided false documentation. The driver was identified as Cantu by his North Carolina ID. While speaking to Cantu, the Troopers detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage. Troopers administered SFSTs, which Cantu was unable to do.

Cantu was arrested and transported to SP Massena for processing, where he provided a breath sample of .10% BAC. Cantu was released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Norfolk Court for a later date in September.
