Celts Day of Service

On Saturday, Sept. 21, University of St. Thomas-Houston student athletes participated in the Celts Day of Service, a campus-wide event where students volunteer for projects in the Houston area and on campus. Their efforts, organized by the Office of Student Services and Resources, have made a meaningful impact on the community. We want to recognize and thank the Celts softball, swim, and spirit teams, all of whom contributed to the event.

Softball

The St. Thomas Softball Program collaborated with the Rising Stars program in the Prairie Garden, helping clean up the area and organize the Celt Pantry. Additionally, the softball student athletes worked with Project CUREto sort medical appliances that were ready to ship out to countries worldwide.

Swimming

The UST Swim team participated in Celts Day of Service by assisting with campus maintenance and upkeep. The swim team gave back to the community by cleaning the gardens, picking up trash around campus, and helping beautify the campus.

Head Coach Hanna Huston says, "Our involvement in Celts Day of Service is not only an opportunity to give back to our school but also a chance to bring the team together and reinforce the core values that we have instilled as a team."

Spirit

Cheer volunteered at the Guts and Glory event, hosted by Covenant House. This program helps raise money to support homeless youth who are either trafficked or at risk.

Not to be outdone, St. Thomas Dance volunteered their time with the Horticulture Department at the Houston Botanic Gardens. They cleared out invasive and dominant plant species, saving the HBG Horticulturist work hours. Head Coach Ceirra Bonds stated, "It's good for Spirit to give back to the community and bond with each other while doing it".

Congratulations and thanks go to UST's athletic programs for demonstrating their dedication to service and community engagement during the Celts Day of Service!
