Rep. Takano Secures $7.4 Million for Street Infrastructure Upgrades in Riverside

September 06, 2024

RIVERSIDE, CA - Today, Representative Mark Takano (CA-39) secured nearly $7.4 million in street infrastructure upgrades to reduce pedestrian and driver deaths in Riverside. This grant is among over $1 billion in street infrastructure upgrades a part of the Department of Transportation's Safe Street and Roads for All (SS4A) program.

The Department of Transportation found that Riverside experiences more total traffic fatalities, and more per capita traffic fatalities, than any other city in the county, including pedestrian fatalities. The money will go towards the construction of additional sidewalks, protected bike lanes, high visibility crosswalks, a traffic circle, among other improvements to keep travelers safe.

"Whether you travel by car, bus, bike, or foot, you deserve to be safe and protected from harm on our streets," said Congressman Takano. "I applaud the City of Riverside for their successful application and the Department of Transportation for recognizing the need for this critical funding. As Riverside continues to grow, I look forward to seeing these projects completed to keep travelers safe. I am proud to have voted to pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to equip the Department of Transportation with the ability to fund these projects in Riverside and around the country."

"Community safety includes being safe on our roads," said Mayor of Riverside, Patricia Lock Dawson. "Preventable tragedies involving pedestrians and drivers will be curbed thanks to this federal funding. Not only that, but these upgrades will also equip our community to useother modes of transportation safely, reducing car reliance and traffic. Our federal partners, including Rep. Takano, have fought for these funds and I am proud to work with him as he advocatesfor our community in Washington."

This is the latest action Rep. Takano has taken to eliminate transportation-related fatalities and serious injuries. Last year, Rep. Takano delivered over $23 million in infrastructure upgrades in Riverside and Moreno Valley as a part of SS4A.
