Tulane alumna and veteran Title IX professional named new Chief Title IX Officer

Tulane alumna Julia Broussard, a 12-year veteran in the Title IX office, has been named the university's new Chief Title IX Officer.

Julia Broussard, a distinguished Tulane alumna and seasoned Title IX officer, has been named the university's new Chief Title IX Officer, effective Sept. 1.

"I have had the pleasure of working closely with Julia on a variety of projects, and she is a smart, thoughtful, strategic leader with a deep knowledge of Title IX and related issues, who is tireless in her efforts to make our campus safer and more supportive for all members of our community," said Robin Forman, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. "I am thrilled that Julia will now be taking the lead on our Title IX work, both compliance and campus education. This is a great hire for Tulane." <_o3a_p><_o3a_p>

Broussard brings a wealth of experience to her new role. She has worked at Tulane for 12 years and has been associated with Tulane's Title IX office in various roles. Over the past two years, she served as the Associate Director for the Title IX office and a Deputy Title IX Coordinator. In the latter role, Broussard collaborated in developing and implementing new initiatives and projects related to sexual misconduct prevention and response and Title IX training, materials and communications for the campus community.

Broussard also served as the interim Assistant Provost for Title IX and Title IX coordinator from 2021-22. Previously, she worked in Case Management and Victim Support Services at Tulane. In addition, Broussard has led the implementation of a partnership with a local organization, Beyond Harm, to provide an evidence-informed intervention for students who have engaged in sexual misconduct. <_o3a_p>

Broussard will replace Marcus Foster, who served as Tulane's Chief Title IV Officer for the past two years before being named the Assistant Vice President of Equity and Civil Rights/Title IX Coordinator at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.<_o3a_p>

"As a Tulane alum and a native of Louisiana, I'm thrilled to be able to serve my school and community through our important work to combat sexual violence and promote gender equity," Broussard said. "I know that our campus community cares deeply about these issues, and I look forward to continuing to work closely with our students, faculty, staff, and community members to drive positive change."<_o3a_p>

In her new role, Broussard's primary duties will include overseeing the response to Title IX complaints, including dating violence, domestic violence and stalking. She will coordinate and work closely with the university's Division of Student Affairs, Office of Human Resources & Institutional Equity, the Office of the General Counsel and the Tulane University Police Department. <_o3a_p>

The Tulane Title IX Office is currently in its second year of the All In 2.0strategic plan to combat sexual violence and is currently participating in the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators Culture of Respect Collective, a two-year cohort experience that guides campuses through a rigorous process of self-assessment and targeted organizational change for sexual violence prevention and response.<_o3a_p>

Broussard's dedication and hard work have been recognized by Tulane and outside constituents. In 2023, the Newcomb Institute awarded her the Josephine Louise Award for significantly impacting undergraduate women at Tulane. That same year, the Louisiana Foundation Against Sexual Assault awarded the Tulane Title IX Office its Sexual Assault Ally Organization of the Year award.<_o3a_p>

A native of St. Gabriel, Louisiana, Broussard holds a bachelor's degree in sociology and French from Tulane and a master's degree in social work from Louisiana State University. She is also a licensed clinical social worker and a New Orleans Medical Reserve Corps volunteer.<_o3a_p>
