Impaired Driver Arrested for Crashing into Barrier on Spokane Street Bridge, Gun Recovered

Seattle Police arrested an impaired driver and recovered a handgun following a collision on the Spokane Street bridge Saturday evening.

On September 14th at 7:01 p.m., patrol officers responded to a single vehicle collision into a barrier on the Spokane Street Bridge.

Police determined, "the vehicle had been travelling westbound at a high rate of speed when it crossed into the opposite lane of travel, crashed through a gate, and finally coming to a stop when it struck another gate."

The Seattle Fire Department (SFD) arrived on scene and extricated the occupants by cutting the roof off. They provided medical aid to the female passenger, 21, and she was transported to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition.

SFD located a loaded Glock 45 9mm pistol inside of the vehicle belonging to the 25-year-old driver. They provided it to police, and it was seized as evidence.

The driver was in stable condition with minor injuries. He displayed signs of alcohol impairment and was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence and Unlawful Carry of a Pistol.

He was transported to Harborview Medical Center pending a DUI blood warrant. The warrant was approved by a Judge and evidence was collected. The driver was released from police custody pending further investigation.

According to the Seattle Department of Transportation, the bridge remains closed to vehicle traffic while repairs are underway.
