On August 11, 2024, State Police of Saratoga arrested Thomas E. Crandall, 29, of Ballston Spa, NY, for Grand Larceny in the third degree.

On August 5, 2024, at about 3:04 p.m., Troopers received a complaint that an employee of a business in Malta, NY, was missing a large quantity of metal. The investigation determined the company had employed Crandall since July 2023. Without permission, Crandall reportedly removed a large amount of metal valued at more than $3,000 from the business's property on July 5, 2024. It was later discovered he allegedly brought that property to a scrap yard and exchanged it for cash.

Crandall was arrested at his home and transported to SP Saratoga for processing. He was arraigned at the Malta Town Court and released on his own recognizance.
