Mayor Scott Statement on Fatal 5-Alarm Fire in Hampden

BALTIMORE, MD (Tuesday, October 15, 2024) - Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott released the following statement regarding the 5-alarm fire in Hampden that resulted in two fatalities and significant property damage.

"Our hearts are heavy today with the loss of two of our residents in this morning's fire, and we grieve with their family, loved ones, and neighbors. The City of Baltimore will stand with these families to offer whatever support possible for those who lost loved ones or property in this devastating fire.

"While the cause of this fire remains under investigation and we do not know much about the circumstances at this point, each devastating fire is an important moment to reflect and be reminded about the daily precautions each of us must take to protect ourselves and our families to the best of our abilities. One of the most important tools to prevent fire fatalities is working smoke alarms in every home. BCFD and the American Red Cross install smoke alarms in all Baltimore City homes free of charge - all residents need to do is call 3-1-1 to request them. If you need one installed or need the alarms in your home checked, don't hesitate and make the call today."
