Mesquite Animal Shelter to offer free pet adoptions on Sept. 7

The Mesquite Animal Shelter is once again participating in the national Clear the Shelters campaign that promotes pet adoption and donations.

On Saturday, Sept. 7, the Animal Shelter will host a special one-day adoption event, waiving all fees. Shelter pets available for adoption are sterilized, vaccinated and microchipped.

"Clear the Shelters is an important initiative that shines a light on the need to find forever homes for shelter pets," said Hugo Espinoza, Animal Services Manager. "It has been very successful in Mesquite in the past. We truly hope to help find every animal in the shelter a new family on Sept. 7."

Leading up to the one-day event, the Mesquite Animal Shelter is reducing pet adoption fees throughout the month of August to $10 for all available animals.

Not able to adopt a pet? Financial contributions or donations of items are welcome during Clear the Shelters month. Find out what to donate and see the shelter's Amazon Wish List at www.cityofmesquite.com/AnimalServicesDonations.

Returning for its 10th year, Clear the Shelters was started in 2015 by NBCUniversal Local and is now cohosted with Telemundo. The nationwide pet adoption and donation campaign will run this year from Aug. 10-Sept. 10. Across the country, Clear the Shelters has helped more than 1 million pets find new homes. Last year, more than 1,400 shelters and rescues placed more than 157,000 pets and raised more than $575,000.
