Marquette University mourns the loss of Dr. Patrick J. Doyle, former librarian in the Raynor Memorial Libraries, who died on Tuesday, Nov. 26, after a lengthy illness. He was 75 years old.
Patrick worked at the Marquette University Memorial Library in circulation and cataloguing for more than 40 years. During those years, he was influential in developing the university's philosophy collection and created the Ciszek collection, a resource for learners who sought an orthodox foundation for their Catholic faith. He retired from Marquette in 2021.
He received his doctorate in medieval philosophy at Marquette. While pursuing the degree, he lived and travelled extensively in Europe locating and translating medieval manuscripts for his dissertation.
Patrick's faith was important to him. He regularly attended Mass at the Church of the Gesu and was a member of a Catholic study group made up of lay professionals in the Milwaukee area. He read extensively about theology and followed several Catholic blogs on a regular basis.
A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, at 11 a.m. in The Three Holy Companions Chapel at Marquette University High School (3401 W. Wisconsin Ave.). The family will receive visitors on that day from 9 a.m. until the liturgy. Parking is available at the rear of the school on Michigan Avenue. Patrick will be buried near his parents in Lima, Ohio, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Patrick's memory to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or the National Kidney Fund.
Please remember Patrick, his family and friends in prayer.
