Chief of Defence to attend NATO Military Committee Meeting in the Czech Republic

NATO's highest Military Authority, the Military Committee, will convene for two days in Prague to discuss the strategic development of the Alliance. Finland will be represented on the Military Committee by the Chief of Finnish Defence Forces, General Janne Jaakkola.

The commanders of the Allied member states will meet on September 13 and 14 to discuss the implementation of political decisions made at the NATO Summit in Washington. Chaired by General Christopher G. Cavoli, Supreme Allied Commander Europe, the meeting will focus on coordinating the defence capabilities of the Euro-Atlantic region and achieving their common objectives.

The meeting will also focus on developing support for Ukraine and utilizing insights from the war in Ukraine to enhance the Alliance's own operations. The goal is to increase Ukraine's interoperability with NATO.

Additionally, the event will discuss the progress of NATO's defense planning process.

The NATO Military Committee, consisting of the Chiefs of Defence from Member Nations, meets three times a year to discuss NATO's operations, missions, and activities and to provide military advice to NATO's political leadership, the North Atlantic Council, on how the alliance can address global security challenges.
