Alhambra Thanks Congresswoman Judy Chu for Securing Funding for Key Community Projects

A huge thank you to Congresswoman Judy Chu for securing vital funding through the Community Project Funding (CPF) program! Thanks to her efforts, the Multimodal Improvement Project at Valley Boulevard will receive $1.2 million, and the Joslyn Senior Center Facility Improvements will benefit from $500,000.

Multimodal Improvement Project at Valley Boulevard: $1.2 million

The goal of this project is to enhance safety and accessibility along a heavily trafficked roadway in Alhambra and the San Gabriel Valley. By promoting non-motorized transportation, it improves pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure and upgrades bus stops, aiming to ease congestion and boost transit access. These upgrades will support active transportation, reduce pollutants and emissions, and improve public health, while rebalancing the corridor into complete streets for better local and regional connectivity.

Joslyn Senior Center Facility Improvements: $500,000

As the only senior center in Alhambra, the Joslyn Center serves as an essential hub for services, resources and socializing for a large, diverse population of seniors. This project focuses on rehabilitating the Joslyn Center by making critical repairs to the roof and improving accessibility through lighting, landscaping, and thoughtful design. These improvements will revitalize the space while addressing critical repairs in order to ensure that the Senior Center can continue to provide vital community resources and programming.

With an estimated 40,000 senior participants, the Joslyn Center plays a vital role in keeping older adults active, engaged, and independent in the community. The Joslyn Center hosts the Senior Nutrition Program and provides transportation services, comprehensive case management, and inclusive programs to address the diverse needs of the senior community and beyond.
