Gayle Lacey has been with the HSBC Group for the last 20 years, working in the Middle East, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Latin America, Vietnam, Hong Kong SAR and Mainland China.
Gayle serves as the chief risk officer for HSBC China, having relocated to Shanghai in June 2021. In this role, she leads the risk function, overseeing the proactive management of risks across the bank's expansive network, which boasts the largest number of outlets and the widest geographical reach of any foreign bank in Mainland China. Under her leadership, HSBC China continues to ensure the sustainability, safety and growth of its business, managing over USD 6 billion in PBT and USD 36 billion in loans and advances to customers.
Prior to this, Gayle held the position of UK chief operating officer for commercial banking, where she supported businesses of all sizes, with a million customers and PBT of GBP 1.5 billion.
Gayle is a graduate of the University of Bath in the UK, holding a BSc in international management. She is a passionate advocate for gender inclusion and equality, serving as the co-chair of Balance in Mainland China, a global community of HSBC colleagues dedicated to these goals.
In addition to her professional responsibilities, Gayle is actively involved in various boards, including the British Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, the Girl Scouts in Mainland China and the Wade Deacon Trust, an education trust in the UK. Outside of work, Gayle enjoys cooking, exploring new places, trying different cuisines and learning about diverse cultures.
