Moolenaar, Ryan, James Introduce Patriot Week Resolution

Today, Congressman John Moolenaar, along with Congressmen Pat Ryan (D-NY), and John James (R-MI) introduced legislation to designate September 11 through September 17, 2024 as Patriot Week. The bipartisan resolution has previously been introduced by Moolenaar.

"Patriot Week honors the founding principles of our nation, our Constitution, and the victims of the horrific 9/11 terrorist attacks," said Moolenaar. "I am proud to introduce legislation establishing Patriot Week, to encourage Americans to learn about our history, celebrate our freedoms, and revere those who were lost to terrorism."

"Congressman James and I were in our second year at West Point on 9/11. We swore to never forget the heroes we lost that day, and now, alongside Congressman Moolenaar, we're putting those words into action," said Congressman Ryan. "In the weeks and months that followed 9/11, Americans demonstrated remarkable unity, compassion, and a reclaimed patriotism that illuminated one of our darkest hours and embodied the best of humanity. As we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice that day, let's recommit to the bonds we share as Americans - love for our country and one another."

"When our nation was attacked on 9/11, I was a cadet at West Point. My class was the first to know that we were going to war after graduation day. I served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and if given the chance, I'd do it all over again. This country is worth fighting and sacrificing for and I am deeply proud to support this resolution establishing Patriot Week from September 11th to the 17th. Our nation's rich history and enduring values deserve to be honored and celebrated. America is the greatest country in human history, and it is our duty to uphold these values for generations to come," said Congressman James.

Patriot Week was founded in 2009 by Judge Michael Warren of Oakland County, and his daughter Leah, with the goal of promoting public awareness of the nation's founding documents and key people in the nation's history. The week begins on the anniversary of the tragic 2001 terrorist attacks and ends on Constitution Day, the anniversary of when delegates to the 1787 Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia signed the Constitution.
