DuBOIS, Pa. - Looking for a new head coach for the first time since the baseball program restarted in 2015, Penn State DuBois athletics had the next man in line already within the program as Garrett Brown has been named the new head coach for Penn State DuBois baseball.

A former Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) and United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) player at Penn State DuBois, Brown has served on the coaching staff under former head coach Tom Calliari for several seasons, not only learning from Calliari a player's perspective of the game, but also a coach's perspective. Calliari stepped down as head coach at the end of the 2023-24 season. Brown will now put what he learned to use as he steps into the head coach position.

I'm a hometown kid who gets to start my college head coaching career right here in my hometown of DuBois. It doesn't get much better than that.

"I'm a hometown kid who gets to start my college head coaching career right here in my hometown of DuBois," Brown said. "It doesn't get much better than that. I'm ready to get the team back on campus so we can get to work. The players know what they are getting with me and when they found out that I was selected, they were super excited. All of them have a chip on their shoulder after the way things ended last season with losing in the national championship game. So, this year their mission is to get back on top again!"

Brown is also the first person to give credit to Calliari and all the current and former coaches at Penn State DuBois for helping him as a player and as a coach.

"I'd like to just thank all the coaches at Penn State Dubois, especially Coach Calliari for shaping me into the person that I am today," Brown said. "They've believed in me since the day I stepped foot on this campus as a player and I truly wouldn't have had this opportunity without them having the confidence in me to be the next face of the program."

Brown takes over a program that won four national championships under Calliari's leadership. But Calliari is quick to point out that Brown is the perfect selection to keep Penn State DuBois baseball moving in the right direction both on and off the field.

There is no one more passionate, more committed and more knowledgeable than Garrett Brown.

"There is no one more passionate, more committed and more knowledgeable than Garrett Brown," Calliari said. "I have been involved with him both inside and outside of baseball since Garrett was 13 years old. He is an amazing individual, and I couldn't be prouder to hand the reins over to him to continue this program's legacy and success on the field. I know he will pass down the knowledge he has learned to players for years to come and will help shape them into outstanding student athletes who will also succeed in life after their playing days are finished."

This sentiment was echoed by Penn State DuBois director of athletics Ken Nellis.

"Garrett has made his mark on Penn State DuBois baseball as a player, volunteer coach, and now he is ready to take the leadership role from his mentor, Coach Calliari," Nellis said. "We are confident that Garrett will maintain the standard of excellence that is Penn State DuBois baseball. Garrett's passion and knowledge for the game will provide him a basis to build upon the reach tradition and continue placing championship banners on the outfield wall at Showers Field, the home of Penn State DuBois baseball."

Brown is already looking forward to the upcoming season and has already laid out his opening message for his players.

All I ask of them as a coach is that they give me 110% on the field, in the classroom and to genuinely be a good person.

"All I ask of them as a coach is that they give me 110% on the field, in the classroom and to genuinely be a good person," Brown said. "If they do that, I truly believe that we will have a very special year together because that's what it is going to take to win, having everyone working together, supporting each other to achieve one goal. As their coach, I'm going to believe in them and support them through every step along the way."
