INDIANAPOLIS - Former U.S. Senator for Indiana and Ambassador to the Vatican Joe Donnelly will serve as Delegation Chair for Indiana to the Democratic National Convention on Aug. 19-22 in Chicago.

Donnelly served as ambassador from 2021 until last week. He worked with President Biden to promote America's interests and on major issues including the wars in Ukraine and Gaza.

He served as U.S. Senator for Indiana between 2013-2019, and was the Congressman for Indiana's 2nd congressional district from 2007-2013.

"We're incredibly proud to have a champion for Hoosier families and someone who has seen first hand the amazing accomplishments of the Biden-Harris administration leading our delegation forward in Chicago in Ambassador Joe Donnelly," said Indiana Democratic Party Chair Mike Schmuhl.

"Ambassador Donnelly has given a lifetime of service to our state and country and will be the perfect leader for our delegation. Joe understands what this election is about: protecting our democracy, promoting personal freedoms, and continuing the record investments in infrastructure and union labor across our country."

After stepping away from his post as Ambassador, Donnelly returned to his family home in Granger, Ind.

"I'm honored to be leading our delegation in Chicago for what is sure to be a historic Democratic National Convention. We owe President Joe Biden a debt of gratitude for profound public service to our country, and the incredible job he has done as President. This convention will be a celebration of the accomplishments of the last three-plus years, and what is at stake if we go down the path of another four years of a Trump presidency. We must unite to defeat Trump, and continue the progress into the next four years," said Donnelly.
