Writer in Residence Offers Free Workshops at Mesa Public Library

Aspiring writers can get help from a published author to improve their skills at Mesa Public Library. As part of the Writer in Residence Program, published author Sharon Skinner will use the Main Library as her public workspace from September through December, offering one-on-one consultations and hosting workshops to help both emerging and experienced writers improve their craft.

Sharon will be available for 30-minute one-on-one consultations from September through December to help writers fine-tune their work. Appointments are required and can be booked through the librarys event calendar.

Your Personal Path to Publication
Saturday, Sept. 14, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Main Library, 64 E. 1st St.
Sharon Skinner will guide participants through the publishing process and offer insights into the variety of resources available to writers.

One-Page Blueprint for a Book
Thursday, Sept. 26, 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Main Library, 64 E. 1st St.
Discover the power of the one-page blueprint, which helps writers focus on their storys core elements and purpose, particularly during revisions.

Tick, Tick, Tick: Conflict and Tension
Saturday, Oct. 12, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Main Library, 64 E. 1st St.
This workshop will delve into the essential elements that create internal and external conflict and how to build rising tension in your story.

Sharon Skinner is an author, certified book coach and freelance editor. Her work focuses on speculative fiction and includes fantasy, science fiction, paranormal and steampunk genres. She has published nine novels, two short stories and poetry collections and two picture books.

The Writer in Residence program is supported by the Arizona State Library, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
