Parliament, Wednesday, 6 November 2024 - The Deputy President, Mr Paul Mashatile, will appear before the Permanent Delegates of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) tomorrow at 14:00 for oral replies to questions. Oral question-and-answer sessions are one way Parliament holds the executive accountable.
Section 92(2) of the Constitution stipulates that Cabinet Members are accountable collectively and individually to Parliament for exercising their powers and performing their functions. Parliament uses a range of instruments to hold the Executive accountable, including asking questions to the Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa.
Questions to the Deputy President scheduled for tomorrow's sitting will cover a range of matters, including measures taken by the government to revitalise and grow the manufacturing sector in the townships and rural economy and how corruption in state-owned enterprises will diminish when the National State Enterprises Bill of 2024 centralises all existing SOEs under the control of a single SOE.
