8 Jul 2024, 15:50

The Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 9 July, to resume discussions on proposed changes to the River Shannon, Grand and Royal Canal and Barrow Navigation byelaws with representatives from Waterways Ireland.

Ahead of the meeting at 3pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Steven Matthews said: "The proposed new River Shannon, Grand and Royal Canal and Barrow Navigation byelaws are designed to update the current laws which date from the 1980s, before the establishment of Waterways Ireland.

"This is our third engagement with Waterways Ireland on the new byelaws, and the Committee looks forward to hearing an update on the second phase of public consultations on the laws, which were completed earlier following our last meeting on the matter at the end of January."

The Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
