Movies That Matter explores the heart and soul of Tejano music

Movies That Matter: Latino, a film series program of the City of Fort Worth's Human Relations Commission, will present Songs of the Homeland: History of Tejano Music at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at Historic Rose Marine Theater, 1440 N. Main St.

About the film:Songs of the Homeland: History of Tejano Music (1995, 57 min., NR). This critically acclaimed documentary features images of the past and present and includes performances and interviews with musical pioneers such as Tony de la Rosa, Valerio Longoria, Lydia Mendoza, Isidro Lopez, Sunny Ozuna, Mingo Saldivar and Little Joe Hernandez. Produced and directed by award-winning filmmaker Hector Galán, Songs of the Homeland is an exuberant journey into the heart and soul of Tejano music.

Worth mentioning: Fort Worth Movies That Matter: Latino is a quarterly film series that celebrates the diversity that exists within the Latino culture. Each event features a film screening, followed by a moderated discussion with local subject matter experts. Screenings are held in March, June, September and December at the Rose Marine Theater, home of Artes de la Rosa Fort Worth Cultural Center. MTM:Latinois made possible through a collaboration between the City of Fort Worth and Artes de la Rosa. Admission is free.
