"Data Analytics and Computing Advances for Drone Applications" is the topic of the University of Wyoming Computing Symposium Sept. 19-20. The symposium is free and open to the public.

Specific applications during the symposium will include new research in sustainable development goals, agriculture and animal migration monitoring, disaster response, drone control systems, cloud computing, data analysis, intelligence systems and remote sensing.

UW's School of Computing and the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in the UW College of Engineering and Physical Sciences sponsor the two-day symposium. To register, go to the symposium's website.

The Wyoming Computing Symposium was established to showcase the computing research and development taking place in Wyoming and the region that contribute to strengthening the economy and workforce.

The first day of the symposium features workshops, a panel discussion and an industry expo; the second day is dedicated to interactive data and drone workshops.

Parag Chitnis, UW's vice president for research and economic development, who heads the Research and Economic Development Division, will give the symposium's opening remarks Thursday, Sept. 19, and UW President Ed Seidel will deliver closing remarks.

Gov. Mark Gordon, the luncheon speaker, will discuss "Innovative Technologies and Growing Wyoming." Matt Burgess, a geographer at the National Unmanned Aircraft Systems Project Office in the Geosciences and Environmental Change Science Center in Denver, Colo., is the day's keynote speaker.

Melissa Reynolds, faculty director for Campus Research Cores Facilities in Colorado State University's research office, will give opening remarks on the second day of the symposium. Donna Delparte, an associate professor in Idaho State University's Department of Geosciences, is the day's keynote speaker. Her current research relates to unmanned aircraft systems, visualization, modeling and analysis.
