As part of its commitment to creating safer communities, Westminster City Council is marking Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week (18-24 November), highlighting the council's ongoing work to ensure all residents, visitors, and businesses can enjoy public spaces without fear of harassment or disturbance.
One of the key measures recently implemented is the roll-out of an CCTV network. The Council is installing 100 new high-definition cameras in known ASB hotspots most affecting our communities, with the view to expand the service even further in the coming months. The goal is to deter anti-social behaviour, gather evidence for prosecution, and provide reassurance to the public. Since the services' inception in the summer, the CCTV service has already contributed to cases across the borough in identifying and assisting Police with arrests of individuals.
Councillor Aicha Less, Cabinet Member for Communities and Public Protection, said, "This investment in new CCTV technology is a crucial step towards making Westminster a safer place for everyone. We want our residents and visitors to feel secure, whether they're walking through our streets or enjoying time in our parks. The CCTV network will help us quickly address issues as they arise and prevent incidents before they escalate."
The council is also increasing efforts to tackle antisocial behaviour by helping residents report any disturbances in their area. A dedicated webpage offers support and advice for victims, as well as information on how and where to report instances of antisocial behaviour.
As Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week continues, Westminster City Council is encouraging everyone to play their part in making the community a safer and more inclusive place. Residents are invited to attend community meetings, participate in local safety initiatives, and share their ideas on how to improve neighbourhood safety.
For more information on how to get involved or to report concerns, visit the Westminster City Council website or contact your local ward councillors. Together, we can build a safer, more supportive community for all.
