Trinseo’s Depolymerization Plant Hosts Ghent University Research Team

Trinseo welcomed Prof. Dr. Ir. Steven De Meester, assistant professor of Bioscience Engineering at Ghent University, and his research team from the Laboratory for Circular Process Engineering in Belgium, who visited the company's R&D and recycling facilities in Terneuzen, the Netherlands, on October 30. This event provided a unique opportunity for Trinseo's R&D experts to engage with academia, facilitating in-depth discussions on the latest polymer recycling advancements, with a particular focus on dissolution-based technologies.

As a leading expert in the field, Dr. De Meester has a distinguished background in both conventional and advanced recycling methods. His team at Ghent University is among the few globally dedicated to dissolution-based recycling, a sophisticated method that allows high-purity separation of polymers from complex waste streams. Their extensive collaborations with industry and research institutions have helped advance the recycling field greatly.

The visit began with a guided tour of Trinseo's dissolution pilot plant, showcasing real-life recycling operations and illustrating ongoing projects.
