Welcome to the LBPD Blotter!

As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department's homepage and on the "News" tab of the Department's website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Here's a recap of incidents occurring last night:

  • Hit Shooting with SWAT Activation - 1600 Block of West Pacific Coast Highway - On July 31, 2024 at approximately 8:59 p.m., officers responded to the 1600 block of West Pacific Coast Highway regarding a shots call. Upon arrival, officers learned an armed male adult suspect was inside of a business. SWAT was activated and the suspect surrendered a short time later. Officers discovered he had a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was transported by Long Beach Fire Department personnel to a local hospital for treatment and remains in police custody. Preliminary investigation indicates the male suspect was involved in a verbal altercation with a female adult suspect which escalated when the female suspect brandished a firearm. A struggle for the firearm ensued between them and the firearm discharged, striking the male suspect. The male suspect entered an open business and brandished the firearm causing occupants to fear for their safety. The female suspect fled the scene prior to officers' arrival. No other injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

  • Traffic Fatality - Anaheim Street and Cherry Avenue - Collision Investigation detectives are investigating a traffic collision that occurred on July 31, 2024 which resulted in the death of a male adult motorcyclist. A new release detailing the incident can be found here.
  • Traffic Fatality - Studebaker Road and Loynes Drive - Collision Investigation detectives are investigating a traffic collision that occurred on Aug. 1, 2024 which resulted in the death of a female adult. A new release detailing the incident can be found here.
