The six-show music series brings numerous genres of Latin music to parks around Boston
What?
The Tito Puente Latin Music Series, a slate of six concerts at different venues in Boston, sponsored by Berklee College of Music and the city of Boston.
When?
Thursday, August 8, and Thursday, August 15, at 7 pm.
Where?
The August 8 show is at Jamaica Plain's Mozart Park; the August 15 show is on the Boston Common.
How much?
It's free.
Why should I go?
The Tito Puente Latin Music Series returned to Boston this summer, bringing live Latin music to locations around the city on Thursday nights. The last two events of the series are scheduled for August 8 and 15.
Ernest Anthony Puente, more popularly known as Tito Puente, was a legendary Puerto Rican American bandleader, musician, and composer-and at one point, one of the most prominent faces in the Latin music industry. During the course of his career, Puente recorded dozens of albums and wrote many popular songs, like "Ran Kan Kan" and "Oye Como Va." He earned five Grammy awards and performed in several films, including The Mambo Kings (1992).
On August 8, don't miss an enchanting music-and-dance performance by Clave & Blues, a band featuring international musicians led by Anibal Cruz, a Cuban pianist and Berklee College of Music alum. The band has been entertaining Boston audiences since 2016 with their blend of Afro-Cuban rhythms, blues, and R&B.
On August 15, bring your friends and family to the series' closing event on the Boston Common, which features live salsa music by Edwin Pabon and Puente's son, Tito Puente, Jr.
Following the footsteps of his father, Puente continues to spread joy and passion through his fusions of jazz, Latin, salsa, and mambo. Pabon started his solo musical career in 1990, performing with his own orchestra and alongside Puente, Carlos Santana, Celia Cruz, and others.
