Car Free Day 2024 registration is now open

Car Free Day 2024 is approaching, and area residents, commuters, and students in metropolitan Washington can show their support for and participate in this international event by registering online at carfreemetrodc.org. Organized regionally by the Commuter Connections program at the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, this annual initiative encourages those who live and/or work in the metropolitan Washington region to embrace a greener way of getting around by going car-free or car-lite on Monday, September 23.

Reduce Traffic, Improve Your Health, and Win Prizes

By taking the free online pledge at carfreemetrodc.org, participants actively contribute to reducing traffic congestion and greenhouse gas emissions, while also saving money on gas and parking and improving their health. As a bonus, each registrant is entered into a raffle for a chance to win from a list of ever-expanding prizes from this year's sponsors.

Taking the Free Pledge is Easy: Choose a Greener Way to Travel

Simply visit carfreemetrodc.org and take the free online pledge and travel by using options such as transit, biking, carpooling, vanpooling, scootering, or walking on September 23 or work from home.

"Car Free Day is a chance to explore greener transportation and contribute to a healthier environment," said Daniel Sheehan, Commuter Connections Director. "With traffic congestion increasing, this is a perfect opportunity to experience the benefits of transit, bicycling, carpooling, and other options."

Head over to carfreemetrodc.org and click "Take the Pledge" to join the movement. Provide some basic information and choose your preferred mode of green travel or telework on September 23.
