Wiley’s FY24 Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) Report Highlights its Progress Towards a Sustainable Future Through Knowledg

Driven by its Advancing Sustainability through Knowledge (ASK) strategy, the company is making constant efforts to reduce carbon emissions, publish high-impact content aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and maintainthe integrity of academic publishing in the face ofadvanced technology likeartificial intelligence (AI).

Key highlightsinclude:

  • Carbon Net-Zero by 2040: In FY24, Wiley's net-zero strategy, based on targets validatedby the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), made solid progress through real estate optimization, energy efficiency upgrades, and supply chain engagement. The company remainscommitted to achieving carbon net-zeroby 2040, building on these initiatives to reduce its environmental impact.

  • Employee Engagement in ESG Initiatives: Wiley employees have contributed to ESG activities, with robust support from the company's Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)and ESG working groups. This demonstrates the organization's commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive culture that drives sustainability and societal progress.

  • Leadership in Open Access: Authors continue tochooseto publish their work in Wiley's wide array of open accesspublishing options, ensuring broader exposure to scientific knowledge and supporting the company'svision to share knowledge widely and inclusively.

  • Integrity in Publishing with AI Tools: The organizationcontinues to embrace advancements in publishing technology by incorporating AI-driven tools to enhance research integrity. The companyhas deployed a suite of tools designed to detect various forms of research fraud, including AI-generated content and paper mill manipulation. These tools help uphold the integrity of the scholarly record by identifyingproblematic phrases, irregular publication patterns, and verifying researcher identities.
