As part of the grind and overlay project on north Monroe St., paving will require complete closure of all northbound and southbound lanes between Kiernan Ave. and Francis Ave. on Monday, July 8. The intersection of west Garland Ave. and north Monroe St. will also be closed. Suggested routes include Maple/Ash streets, Division St., and Wall/Post streets. Drivers are urged to use designated detour routes.

What to Expect:

  • Monroe St. will be completely closed northbound and southbound between Kiernan Ave. (N. 3700 block) and Francis Ave. (N. 6200 block) will be closed for the day.
  • The intersection of west Garland Ave. and north Monroe St. will be completely closed for the day.
  • North Monroe St. is expected to reopen by Tuesday, July 9

This project is part of the Six Year Comprehensive Streets plan to maintain 2,200 lane miles of streets and also includes signal work and ADA-compliant sidewalk improvements. The grind and overlay method is favored because of its ability to efficiently extend the lifespan of existing roadways while preserving safety and aesthetics.
