Denver Police Arrest Suspect in 18500 Block East 61st Avenue Shooting

Denver - Tuesday, November 19, 2024 - Today, the Denver Police Department announces the arrest of 18-year-old Joe Griggs-Sanders for the shooting of a juvenile male, which occurred in the 18500 block of East 61st Avenue on November 14, 2024.

On Thursday, November 14, 2024, at approximately 3:12 p.m., Denver Police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 18500 block of East 61st Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located a juvenile male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported to the hospital and remains in critical condition.

Through the course of the investigation, officers identified Joe Griggs-Sanders (DOB: 6/13/06) as the suspect, and he was arrested today. He is currently being held for:

  • Investigation of Attempted First Degree Murder
  • Investigation of First Degree Assault with a Deadly Weapon
  • Investigation of Attempt to Influence a Public Servant
  • Investigation of Criminal Impersonation

To protect the integrity of the investigation, additional information regarding the circumstances of the shooting is not available for release at this time. Per standard protocol, the final determination of charges will be made by the Denver District Attorney's Office.
