Dear Campus Community:
Following an extensive national search, Brian Watson, who had been serving as the university's interim chief information officer since July 2024, has been selected from a pool of highly qualified candidates to become Georgia College & State University's next CIO, effective Jan. 1, 2025.
We are delighted to bring someone to campus who has such extensive knowledge of the University System of Georgia.
A proven industry leader, Brian has worked in the IT field for the past 30 years. In addition to serving GCSU in an interim role, he also currently works as the executive director for IT Services for the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences at the University of Georgia, where he has spent most of his career. He will transition out of that role when his position at GCSU becomes official in January.
Brian holds a master's degree in business administration from Albany State University, as well as several IT certifications. He has also served on numerous IT engagement committees that advise on industry best practices, operational issues, procedures and policies.
I would like to extend my utmost gratitude to the CIO Search Committee for their hard work these past several months. I deeply appreciate every member of the team and their tireless effort during this project.
This was a significant search for GCSU, as IT services continue to increase in importance across all institutional functions, including supporting campus communications, institutional business operations, outreach, research, teaching and learning. A huge thank you to the following committee members:
Chris Greer (committee chair)
Amanda Respess
Chris Ferland
Jeannie Pridmore
Kay Anderson
Jennifer Graham
Jim Berger
Jon Meyer
Wes Hardin
Tina Lee (ex officio member)
Please join me in welcoming Brian to our GCSU community!
Kind regards,
Susan Allen
Interim VP for Finance & Administration
