Marquette welcomes the Class of 2028 | Move-in Day recap and photo gallery

Early this morning, nearly 2,150 first-year undergraduate students from 40 states, Washington D.C., two U.S. territories and 12 countries began moving into Marquette residence halls.

A blessing for new students and their families by Rev. John Thiede, S.J., vice president for mission and ministry, highlighted move-in festivities as the Class of 2028 arrived on campus to begin the 2024-25 academic year.

Almost 3,500 students are expected to take up residence in 10 Marquette residence halls this fall.

New Student Orientation will take place Wednesday, Aug. 21, through Sunday, Aug. 25. A full schedule of events is available on Marquette Today.

The first day of New Student Orientation features the Family Liturgy at 6 p.m. in the Church of the Gesu, and New Student Convocation, which will follow at 7:30 p.m. in the Al McGuire Center. Convocation, considered the formal welcome to Marquette for new students and their families, includes remarks by Dr. Kimo Ah Yun, acting president and provost, and other university leaders.

  • Above 30% for the fifth-straight year and sixth time since 2017
• 23% are first-generation college students
  • Ninth-straight year with over 20% first-gen students
• Just over 39% of the class hails from Illinois, while about 35% hails from Wisconsin
• 162 students attended Catholic or Jesuit high schools

2. St. Thomas More High School, Milwaukee
3. Loyola Academy, Wilmette, Illinois
