Troopers investigate fatal fire in Cortland County

On September 9, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., New York State Police were dispatched by the Cortland County 911 Center to a structure fire on State Route 11 in the town of Marathon.

When Troopers arrived, the home was fully engulfed, and members of the Marathon Fire Department and several surrounding fire departments were on scene.

A 71-year-old male was confirmed to have died in the fire.

The cause remains under investigation.
