Netflix ISP Speed Index for August 2024

This month marks the start of our fifth year reporting results on the updated Netflix ISP Speed Index, our monthly update on which ISPs provide the best prime-time Netflix streaming experience. Netflix has been tracking speed data for nearly 14 years, since January 2011.

Sixty-seven percent of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) stayed the same speed and 32% dropped 0.2 Mbps this month. Twenty-two countries and regions were in the top performance tier in August: Australia, Canada, Denmark, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Netherlands, Norway, Panama, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and the United States all registered an average speed of 3.0 Mbps.

This month saw notable gains and losses across several ISPs. Thailand's CAT saw an increase of 0.4 Mbps, moving from 2.2 to 2.6 Mbps. South Africa's Telkom and Pakistan's PakistanTelecom both rose 0.2 Mbps, with Telkom climbing from 2.4 to 2.6 Mbps and PakistanTelecom moving from 1.8 to 2.0 Mbps. Vietnam's Viettel also recorded a gain of 0.2 Mbps, climbing from 2.6 to 2.8 Mbps. Meanwhile, Copaco in Paraguay decreased by 0.4 Mbps, dropping from 2.0 to 1.6 Mbps.

There were no significant changes to overall country averages since July's results.

The Netflix ISP Speed Index is a measure of prime-time Netflix performance on a particular ISP and not a measure of overall performance for other services or data that may travel across the specific ISP network. Higher Netflix performance generally means better picture quality, quicker start times, and fewer interruptions. We also created a separate tool to check your current download performance: Visit https://FAST.com on any internet browser or download the FAST Speed Test iOSor Androidapp.
