Mayor's Message - August 2024

Dear Residents,

As we embrace the final days of summer and prepare for the exciting months ahead, I would like to share a few updates from the City as well as important reminders while you prepare your family members for the upcoming school year.

This November, the General Election will take place in Aliso Viejo, to fill three City Council seats in District 1, District 3, and District 5. This year will be the first election where residents will vote by districts, where each district will elect one City Council member who lives within its boundaries. To find out which district you reside in, use our interactive "Find Your District" tool by clicking here. For more information about the districting process and the upcoming election, please visit avcity.org.

The arrival of August reminds many of us that the new school year is just around the corner! As you prepare your family members for a smooth transition back to the classroom, I wanted to share important safety reminders for your children as they journey to and from school. Many of our students in Aliso Viejo ride e-bikes for their daily commute, and it is imperative to ensure their safety before they head out. Please be sure your family members are always wearing a properly fitted helmet, and that all riders understand and obey traffic laws. If they will be riding at dawn or dusk, please ensure they are utilizing lights and reflectors, and that brakes, lights, and tires are in good working condition.

Distracted riding can lead to accidents and I encourage you to remind students to avoid using headphones while riding and to be aware of their surroundings. Click here for more helpful safety tips. Let's all do our part to make this a safe and successful school year for all Aliso Viejo families!

I look forward to seeing you around the City as we enjoy the remainder of the summer season.

Mayor Mike Munzing
