State Route 7 Closed Until Further Notice

NEW PHILADELPHIA - A significant rockfall has closed State Route 7 at Mingo Junction. Crews will be working around the clock to remove the rock and restore the work zone. Additionally, pavement repairs that may be needed will be completed prior to reopening the road.

This location is the site of an ongoing rockfall remediation project in this area. Blasting is utilized weekly for the purposes of excavation. Unfortunately, the latest blast caused more material to fall than anticipated, resulting in significant rockfall onto both lanes of State Route 7.

10PM UPDATE:
Work continues on the clean up of rocks that fell on SR 7 during the Thursday noon blasting operations. Both directions of the roadway have been cleared of debris. Crews are inspecting the roadway for damage. Barrier wall will be replaced on Friday. We will post another update on Friday morning.

8PM UPDATE:
The northbound lane is clear of debris, and crews continue to work on the southbound lane. Crews will continue working throughout the night to clear all debris from the road. The road will be thoroughly inspected in the morning for any pavement damage and repaired as needed. The protective barrier wall will be installed before the road reopens. Barring any significant damage, we anticipate that the road will be ready to reopen by mid-afternoon on Friday, July 26th,

5PM UPDATE:
Crews have cleared the debris from the northbound lane of SR 7. Efforts continue to clear the southbound lane. The pavement will still need to be evaluated for damage, any damage will need to be repaired, and the barrier walls will need to be replaced before traffic can safely move through the area again. We do not currently have a timetable for reopening the roadway. Additional updates will be posted here and on our social media accounts.
