Troopers locate illegal handguns in a vehicle following a traffic...

On July 1, 2024, at approximately 4:52 p.m. on State Route 17 west, in the town of Mamakating, members of the Troop F Community Stabilization Unit (CSU), observed a 2020 gray Dodge Durango in violation of several New York State Vehicle and Traffic Laws. Troopers stopped the vehicle and spoke with the operator of the vehicle and its occupants.

While troopers interviewed the occupants of the vehicle probable cause was established to search the vehicle. A canine was utilized during the search. The Troopers located an illegal loaded Taurus G3C .9mm semi-automatic handgun in the glovebox. A second handgun, a loaded 9mm handgun, determined to be stolen, was in the rear of the vehicle under a seat. Mercadiez Briggs age 22 from Sayre, Pennsylvania and Christopher Bruno, age 22, from Chemung, New York were arrested and charged.

Mercadiez Briggs was charged with:

(Criminal Possession Weapon 3rd: Ammunition Feeding Device)

Christopher Bruno was charged with:

(Criminal Possession Weapon 2nd)

(Criminal Possession Firearm)

(Criminal Possession Stolen Property 4th)

Both defendants were remanded to Sullivan County Jail on bail with $50,000cash/ $150,000 bond/ $450,000 partial secured bond.
