Take a Guided Walking Tour of a 200 Year Old Local Treasure

Though not used for more than 100 years, the picturesque former Delaware & Hudson Canal remains intact near Summitville, where Sullivan County operates a walkable/bikeable park and interpretive center.

Summitville, NY - An economic driver for Sullivan County for most of the 19th century, the Delaware & Hudson Canal (1828-1898) has since fallen quiet. That makes it a perfect place to enjoy a picturesque walk along the intact canal boat towpath from Wurtsboro to Summitville, where admission to the Interpretive Center and surrounding Linear Park is free!

This Saturday, July 20, Sullivan County's D&H Canal Interpretive Center is partnering with the Mamakating Historical Society & Museum to host a guided walk along the towpath, starting at noon off Bova Road in Summitville. It is approximately a one-mile flat walk along the towpath to the Mamakating Historical Society on Summitville Road.

Visitors are also welcome to explore indoor exhibits at the Interpretive Center (open 10 a.m.-5 p.m.) and the Mamakating Museum (open 12:30-5 p.m.) at the start and finish of the tour. Both attractions have sufficient parking and will be open to visitors during the tour.
